A Decison

Just what kind of educational decision can you make for a 2.5 year old? A rather important one, I am afraid.

I have known for 2.5 years that we would have to make this decision at some point. And, now that he attends Mother's Morning Out a few days a week, the time had come.

Would we hold The Big Boy back a year in school? Because of his late (July) birthday, he has been the youngest in his MMO class. And would continue to be the youngest if we kept him in his current placement in school.

After alot of debate, organizing our thoughts, and getting opinions from anyone and everyone, we have decided to let Andrew stay in the two year old MMO again next year. Which means that next year, he will be the oldest. We are confident in our decision and really believe that Andrew will continue to thrive educationally with this situation.

So there you have it. I made the decision sound so simple in this post, but really it was one of the most difficult decisions we have had to make concerning our oldest son. But now that the decision has been made, I feel a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Whew!!

I know it was a hard decision! From one educator to another, you made the right one! I think the cutoff date should be more like late June, early July anyway. He'll be fine!

With Clay's bday being Sept 8th, we had the option of going ahead and moving him up to the next class... and we decided that we'd like for him to be the oldest in the class and held him back (I know, it's only daycare, but it makes a BIG difference!). I think for boys, it's always better to be the oldest.

I am a July birthday and I was always the last to do everything!! I would have much rather been the oldest :) Good decision.
