Five Months

HAPPY 5 MONTHS, BABY BEN!

I think the day after I posted his 4 months update, he started rolling over! He is content on his tummy for about a minute before he starts fussing. He still needs help rolling from his tummy to his back. Although Andrew is more than happy to help with this task, mama prefers to do it!

His naps are finally(!) becoming more organized. The few times I had to let him cry have paid off. He usually takes a nap from 9 until 10:30 in the morning, and then another hour and a half nap around 2pm. On days that Andrew goes to school, he often takes a cat-nap in the car when we pick him up around 12:30. This schedule isn't consistent everyday, but we are on this schedule more and more days. And schedules make mama happy! He goes to sleep between 7 and 7:30, depending on, well...our day. I still wake him at 10:30 to feed him and then he will wake up anytime between 5 and 7:30. Last night was the first night I decided to let him cry until I was ready for him to start his day (for our schedule, that he needs to be up between 7 and 7:30). He woke up at 3:00 fussing. I let him fuss and he went back to sleep in about 15 minutes (is it me or does 15 minutes at 3am feel like an eternity?!). He woke again around 5am and fussed. I decided that if he was still fussing at 6am, I would feed him and start our day. The next time I woke up? 7:30am!! By myself...not to a crying baby; not to a toddler telling me it is "light outside". (Insert Hallelujah chorus here!)I had to wake Baby Ben up at 7:45 to start our day!

He is still eating every three hours. I just don't have the energy/want/desire to try to stretch that to four hours right now. I am pretty sure he could go longer because he is not eating as much every three hours. But, I have introduced solids, so maybe that will help stretch him to four hours, with out me having to do much work. At least that is what I am hoping.

Although Ben loves his cereal, I was having trouble fitting his solid feedings into my schedule. I knew I was crazy when I exclaimed to my friend, "When do you have time to feed your kids!?" So I took a step back and re-examined our schedule and now feed Ben cereal/applesauce for breakfast and dinner. He doesn't like it for breakfast so much, but he will eat two bowls at dinner! At the slow, snail-paced rate I am going with introducing solids to Ben, who knows when he will get more than cereal and applesauce. I am only giving him those because that is what I have in my pantry. I have been to the grocery store twice and both times have forgotten to pick him up some veggies.

Oh and I am thinking of making my own baby food. Has anyone else done this? What was your experience? Would you recommend? I know what you are thinking...."Christy, didn't you just exclaim that you don't even have time to feed your children? How are you gonna find time to make baby food?" Don't worry (or maybe you should). I am aware that I may be going crazy.

He has become very "tough" thanks to his older brother. The "love pats" to his tummy from Andrew now bring smiles rather than tears. Although Andrew tells Ben "I love you" all day long, I still have to keep an eye out for the physical ways he shows love to Ben. You have boys? You know what I mean!

He is still a laid-back, chill baby. He loves to be talked to, but is just as happy entertaining himself. His new favorite game is "Peek-a-Boo". And blowing raspberry's.

He is so adorable. I could just eat him up:

5 months already! On the baby food, my mother actually made her own food for Lanair and myself. Of course, I think it was whatever veggies she had cooked for my dad for lunch and then just threw it into the food processor. She didn't do this for Cookie, and well, we all know how that turned out!!

Good Luck with whatever you do.
