My Latest "Thing"

Despite the fact that I am only buying groceries for two adults, our grocery bill has been outrageous for a few months. So, I have been trying to figure out ways to save on our grocery bill. I was especially inspired after watching one of my favorite tv shows--Jon and Kate plus 8 (or Jon and Kate plus 22, as Rob refers to the show). Kate made the comment that she feels it is her job as a stay at home mom to make the money Jon brings in each month go the furthest. I thought, if she can do it with 8 kids, a tv show, and a speaking engagement schedule, surely I can find time to come up with ways to save at the grocery store. More importantly, I liked her point of view concerning the efficient spending of money as her 'job' as a stay at home mom.
So, this week I scoured the grocery store ads in the newspaper (I have never noticed them until this week!) and found which stores were having discounts and deals. I then made a list of these deals and tried to plan a menu around the specials (I always plan our menu for the entire week on Sunday). Then, I hit the stores......three to be exact.
Well, lets just say I now have enough food in my freezer and pantry to last a few weeks!! I ended up spending more money this week on groceries than I EVER have!! But, I am hoping that I won't need to go to the store for 'big' items each week. At the end of this month we can compare our grocery spending to last month and see how we did. I am hoping this is cheaper, but I have my doubts after balancing our checkbook from this "spending spree"!!
