First Day of School

Andrew started his first day of 2 year old preschool on Wednesday. He has been asking about school during our two week break between summer MMO and fall MMO. I knew he would be excited about going back.

We visited open house on Tuesday. He ran in the door and straight to his old classroom. He stopped short, however, when he realized that he didn't know any of the children or teachers in the room. I re-directed him to his "New Big Boy" classroom across the hall.

Once in his new room, he immediately started playing with the toys and pointing out the friends he has made in the last year.

Based on his attitude Tuesday, I was hoping that Wednesday (the actual first day) would go off without a hitch.

And, I was right! In fact, I knew it was going to be a good day when he agreed to wear his new "Big Boy" shoes that help him "jump high" instead of his nasty old flip flops. Flip flops that he has worn everyday this summer. Flip flops that were supposed to be pool shoes, but quickly became part of his everyday attire.

He was excited about going to school and even climbed in his carseat without complain/lots of prodding/force.
He LOVES carrying his lunchbag into school.
So the shoes may not exactly match, but I'm not complaining because this is a huge improvement from the flip flops!
This year Andrew has his own place at the table.
Ready to play.
He's gonna love it!

Andrew's teachers seem very enthusiastic and energetic. Which they will need all the energy they can muster because his class is comprised of 11 boys and 4 girls.
After I snapped this last picture, his teacher came over grabbed his hand and took him to look at books. Andrew gave me one last glance and then he moved on to "Big Boy" things. I almost shed a tear seeing him so mature and 2 year old-ish. And then I remembered my huge To-Do list that needed to be checked off in the few hours Andrew was at school. I sprinted out of the building.
To my surprise, when I arrived to pick up Andrew, his entire class was *gasp* sitting around the teacher. Andrew was in the front, listening attentively as the teacher told a story and then sang a song. It was the longest I have ever seen my child sit in one place. And, I was told by other parents (also waiting for their children) that the kids had been sitting for about 10 minutes!
We all wondered how the teachers had managed to accomplish this incredible feat?! Fifteen two year olds sitting for longer than 5 minutes?! Either these teachers are magicians, or I need some of whatever is going into the sippy cups!
