The Story of a Cake

I decided to make Andrew's birthday cake this year. (The one for the party with my Mama's Bible Group. Andrew ended up having three birthday parties. And by the third one? We just ordered a cake.)

I found a cute picture of a fish-themed birthday cake in a magazine and decided to give it a try. It looked easy enough. Just a basic box birthday cake mix with gummy fish and ocean themed gummy candies. Oh and homemade blue buttercream icing.

Naturally Andrew wanted to help decorate. And so we began.
When he stuck that first piece of "seaweed" up like a birthday candle rather than laying it flat on the blue "water", I decided to let him decorate this cake all on his on.

When he began pressing each gummy fish deep into the cake with his three year old fingers, I decided I would decorate the second cake and serve it our guests.

Now, mine may look like a third grader decorated it, but at least I had clean hands.
