Equal Opportunity

I like to consider myself an "equal opportunity" mother. You see, even though I grew up a UGA fan, my husband graduated from and supports Auburn. (At this point, I could tell you that he actually grew up a UGA fan. I have t-shirts, license plates, and pictures to prove it....but, what kind of wife would do that?!). Being the "equal opportunity" mother that I am, I like to expose Andrew to both sides of the fence. No prejudice in this house. Okay, only a little. Because, afterall, I do have "blogging and dressing rights".

I have found, however, that "daddy rights" trump all. Especially in the eyes of a son.

It all started a few months ago when I attended a baby shower one Saturday morning and left the boys to fend for themselves. It was only going to be a couple of hours.....how much trouble could they get into?

Apparently more than this UGA mama could imagine!

As I walked back in the house from the shower, I found my boys on the couch looking at the computer.

Andrew: Aubie, mama! (For those of you who don't know, Aubie is Auburn's mascot)

Mama: What? Aubie? What are ya'll doing, Rob?

Rob: We are watching youtube videos of Aubie. Highlights from each football season. All set to music.

Andrew: Watch Aubie, mama! Watch Aubie!

And now.....I hear "Watch Aubie, mama!" about 15 times a day and am forced to watched the youtube videos with my son. Who is now obsessed with Aubie.

He dances along with the music and has even told me, "Jump on daddy bed. Like Aubie." (Note: Aubie has never jumped on our bed.)You see, he is obsessed with Aubie.

Although I never really intended for him to wear this particular shirt out in public (Because it is a hand me down that has been through about 3 little boys and has the permanent stains to prove it. Not because I wouldn't let my son out of the house in AU apparel. What kind of "equal opportunity" mother would that be?) , once this shirt goes on him, it does not come off until I can convince him it is too dirty to wear. Which usually takes about three days!

So off he went to school last Friday in his Aubie t-shirt. After we watched about 30 minutes of Aubie on youtube of course.

It may take me years to undo what occurred on that Saturday morning. Years. At least he looks good in orange!
