I Can Laugh About this Today

And while I am praying life and truth over my boys, I think I will just add myself to that list as well. Because if yesterday was any foreshadowing of how rough life can be with two boys, then I am going to be sure to cover myself in prayer and Psalm 91 as well.

I like to refer to yesterday as "EyeGate 2010".  All was going well in the Ward household. We did "school", worked on potty training (yes, we are doing that again.....with the aid of massive amounts of Candyfest candy), and even ate lunch (and with a toddler and a preschooler, you never know if lunch is going to be eaten, played with, or wind up on the floor) All without incident.

Until Andrew poked me in the eye. Not being mean, just let me see what happens when I poke my mama in the eye. Well, I'll tell you what I did. I cried. It hurt. And hurt. And hurt.

I tried to tough it out. But when the tearing up and trobbing pain and headache in my eyeball continued an hour later, I knew I had to get this thing checked out. Thankfully my sweet friend Kelli agreed to watch the boys while I went to the eye doctor. I think my phone call to her included almost tears from me because by the time I called her, both boys were crying and my eyeball was about a level 7 on the pain scale. It was like labor contractions in my eyeball. Anyway, I threw the kids in her yard, and raced to the doctor.

I explained to the nurse about the poking and she agreed that it was a good thing to come in. Especially when you are poked in the eye with a finger. Germs and all that jazz. After numbing my eyeball (Blessings on the person who invented that stuff), she took a look and the conversation went like this:

Nurse: Whoa! You are tough. I know this is painful.
Me: What??!! Just a scratch, right?
Nurse: No. This is about as bad as it gets. It's not a scratch at all. You have a hole in your eyeball.
Me: What??!!
Nurse: Yeah. A good chunck of your cornea is missing. It's a hole. Good thing you came in because you are going to need a bandage type contact and antibiotics and pain meds. And it will take about three to four days to heal.

Yep. I have a clear contact in my eye. And two different sets of drops to put in my eye until I get the contact taken out tomorrow. And I'll be honest, it is still a little painful today.

So. EyeGate 2010. Life with two boys is never dull. Painful sometimes, but never dull.

Oh wow! That sounds painful!!! Clay accidentally poked me in the eye the other day with the corner of his book! It was PAINFUL!!!! I thought I was going to go blind, but it just turned out to be a scratch. Glad you were able to get to the doctor to get that looked at!

Wow, missing part of your eye and still blogging. Now that's dedication. And seriously, if you're already able to laugh about it you have a fabulous sense of humor.
