Compassion for the Multitude

Rob and I have recently begun to read through the New Testament. After only 14 chapters into Matthew I was struck by this thought. Jesus always took time for his multitude. Maybe in chapter 15, he tells them that he needs a break; some "me time"; 8 hours of sleep; a shopping trip alone; but, up to chapter 14, when the multitude follows, he teaches. Even when he tried to be alone after learning of John the Baptists death, he showed compassion for his multitude when they followed him. He healed their sick. And then? He fed them all with only five loaves of bread and two fish.

Lately when my multitude follows me around the house, under my feet, asking, wanting....I want to get away. Not draw them close, teaching and showing compassion. And forget about getting creative at mealtime.

Now, I am not against some much needed time alone to regroup, and actually buying groceries that are on my shopping list.

But how often when I have two littles running circles under foot, do I get frustrated and how often do I stop to meet their needs? To teach, show compassion, sacrifice my desires to "get stuff done" for the sake of my multitude.
